In a bold move to uphold legislative discipline and accountability, the Ughelli North Legislative Council in Delta State has suspended three councilors for alleged gross misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of their oath of office.
The affected lawmakers are:
Hon. Festus Oke Inana (Orogun Ward 9)
Hon. Oke Doris Isodje (Agbarho Ward 20)
Hon. Collins Oghenebrorhie Arhiakpore (Agbarha Ward 1)
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, will span six plenary sittings, during which the embattled councilors are barred from participating in any legislative activities.
The decision followed a resolution passed during plenary, with 10 councilors, led by the Leader of the House, Hon. Prosper Ajero, voting in support of the disciplinary action.
A letter communicating the suspension, signed by the Clerk of the House, Mr. Tagbajumi Emmanuel, stated that the trio must appear before a four-man ad-hoc disciplinary committee constituted to investigate the allegations.
The committee is chaired by the Majority Leader, Hon. Ese Agbobore, and includes Hon. Israel Palmar and Hon. Eshanome as members, while Hon. Henry Omonigho will serve as the secretary. The panel has one month to conclude its investigation and submit a report to the House.
Presiding over the sitting, Hon. Ajero emphasized the Council’s unwavering commitment to integrity, transparency, and ethical governance, asserting that no lawmaker is above the rules guiding legislative conduct.
Political observers say the move signals a renewed resolve by the Ughelli North legislature to sanitize its ranks and maintain public trust in grassroots governance.
