Barely 24 hours after Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, representing Delta South Senatorial District, intervened in the arrest of Isoko comedian Ajiriioghene Otagba, popularly known as MC 2 Kingdom, the Nigerian police have released him.

Otagba was detained for exposing the abandoned 132/33KVA substation in Ozoro, Isoko north local government area of Delta State.

It was gathered that Matthew Edevbie, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) contractor handling the electricity project, finally bowed to pressure following widespread calls for the comedian’s release.

MC 2 Kingdom was arrested last Friday, allegedly under the directive of Edevbie, after posting a Facebook video criticizing the abandonment of the Isoko 132 KVA substation project.

The contractor reportedly filed a petition accusing Otagba of defamation and cyberstalking. Initially detained by the IG Monitoring Unit in Lagos, Otagba was later transferred to the Maitama Area Command in Abuja.

The political leadership and people of the Isoko nation strongly backed Otagba’s call for accountability, condemning the arrest and detention as unjust.

They demanded his immediate and unconditional release, insisting that the issues raised in the video reflected the harsh reality on the ground.

Following his release, the comedian expressed gratitude to the political leaders, youths, social media influencers, and colleagues who rallied for his freedom.

Speaking briefly, he declared, “The freedom of Isoko has commenced from now henceforth, and all contractors and leaders causing pains to the people should be ready.”

The development marks a bold statement from the Isoko community, signaling a growing demand for transparency and accountability in public projects across the region.
