BREAKING NEWS: PDP Appoints Prof. Sylvester Monye as Chairman, Delta State Caretaker Committee

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the appointment of Prof. Sylvester Monye as Chairman of the Delta State Caretaker Committee, following the constitution of caretaker committees for five states across the federation.

The decision, taken on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC), is in line with Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution (2025 as amended) and was officially announced by the party’s National Organizing Secretary, Hon. Dakas Shan, on January 15, 2026.

Delta State Caretaker Committee
The Delta State Caretaker Committee is chaired by Prof. Sylvester Monye, with Dr. Michael Tidi, Esq. serving as Secretary. Other members of the committee include:

The committee is tasked with overseeing and managing the affairs of the PDP in Delta State in accordance with Section 21(2)(a-b) of the party’s constitution.

Other State Caretaker Committees
In the same announcement, the PDP also approved caretaker committees for Enugu, Imo, Rivers, and Osun States, with experienced party leaders appointed as chairmen and members to stabilize party structures and prepare the ground for the election of substantive state executives.

Tenure and Mandate
According to the NWC, the tenure of the caretaker committees shall not exceed 90 days, or until new State Executive Committees are duly elected.
