The Delta State Public Procurement Council has pledged its full support for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, aimed at advancing development and sustainable growth in the state.

Addressing journalists on Thursday January 23, 2025, after an extensive deliberation, the council through its Chairman, Mr. David Igbodo, Esq., a retired DIG of Police, emphasized its commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public procurement processes to align with the governor’s vision of delivering meaningful opportunities, realistic reforms, and enhanced infrastructure.

The council reaffirmed its readiness to play a pivotal role in driving the administration’s development goals.

His words: “The Delta State Public procurement Council, is the body that is responsible for regulating procurement issues in the State for the purpose of accountability, transparency and value for money.

“And today, the 23rd of January 2025, we held our first inaugural meeting where we discussed and had a lot of issues resolved on how to align procurement issues with the more agenda of the governor.

“You all are aware of what the
more agenda of the governor is, Meaningful development for the state, opportunity for all, realistic reform, and enhance peace and security for the state.

“And you can all believe with me that when procurement is gotten right, there will be development for the state and that is exactly what His Excellency, is all about and that was while on the 4th of December 2024, His Excellency deemed it necessary to constitute this body.

“The Council makes regulation on procurement issues while the Commission is implementing body on a day-to-day activities on procurement issues.

“And during our meeting today, we took very key issues on how to make the state move forward. The first one is, we discussed on strengthening the legal and institutional framework of the state.

“The council resolved on how to enhance the enforcement of existing procurement laws and guidelines. That was the first decision we took.

“We also resolved on capacity building for stakeholders. There is a need, to build capacity around procurement officers in the state. That is very, very vital.

“To build capacity for procurement
officers in the state. You know, you have procurement entities. There’s a need to train everybody that is involved.

“And we took a decision around how we are going to, you know, get funds to enhance this capacity training for our members. We also need to leverage on technology.

“You know, E-procurement platform that is domiciled in the commission. Currently, the e-procurement platform is having a little challenge, but we resolved to make sure that that e-procurement platform is up and running in the next few weeks.

“Another resolution we took today was promoting accountability and transparency. Because the issue of accountability and transparency and value for money is one of the key issues why the Delta State Public Procurement Law was enacted. So we took a decision on how we can promote it and enhance that transparency.

“So the Council is very willing and ready to promote accountability and transparency. We are also willing to engage with the public and other stakeholders on how to make sure we have a feedback.

“The Commission and the council, you know, will have a feedback on how to make sure we have a feedback on how to make sure we have a feedback on how to make sure that we make enforceable the rules on procurement issues around the state.

“So where there are shortcomings and challenges, the council will be able to resolve some of these issues on procurement issues. Our major resolution is that everything we do has to resolve and revolve around the mole agenda of the governor.

“We must work in line and in tune with the MORE agenda of the governor. We are on the same page with the governor. We are ready to promote the mole of the governor”.

The Council’s Chairman assured that the State Public Procurement Council remains committed to build a procurement system that is not only efficient but a model for all other states to follow.

The Procurement Council is the body that is responsible for regulating procurement issues for the purpose of accountability, transparency, and value for money.
