32

Pandemonium broke out at the All Progressives Congress (APC) congress in Ethiope-West Local Government Area of Delta State on Saturday after gunmen reportedly targeted the member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency, Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, daughter of former Delta State Governor Chief James Onanefe Ibori.

The incident occurred at Ovade, the designated venue of the party’s congress in Ethiope-West.

A correspondent of Daily Post reported that several persons sustained injuries during the chaos, which disrupted the political exercise.

Sources disclosed that tension escalated shortly after Ibori-Suenu arrived at the venue.

The federal lawmaker and her supporters were allegedly confronted by armed assailants wielding firearms and other dangerous weapons, who reportedly attempted to bar her from gaining access to the congress grounds.

The situation, however, was brought under control by the swift intervention of the lawmaker’s security aides, who successfully repelled the attackers and prevented further escalation.

Despite the incident, Ibori-Suenu has appealed for calm among APC supporters across the state, urging party faithful to remain peaceful and law-abiding.

Security authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the attack as of the time of filing this report.
