BREAKING NEWS: Four Occupants, Young Lady Escape Death In Asaba Crash

It was another close call as tragedy was narrowly averted on Maryam Babangida Way, Asaba, when a Mercedes Benz saloon car lost control near the NUJ Secretariat Junction, leaving bystanders in shock and survivors thanking God for sparing their lives.

Eyewitnesses said trouble started on Friday October 24, 2025, when the vehicle, reportedly driven by a young motorist, was speeding recklessly before attempting a dangerous turn into the road leading to 11:59 Lounge.

In a split second, the car skidded off the road, scaled the culvert pavement, and came to a violent stop against the drainage barrier.

“It happened so fast, we just heard the screech of tyres and a loud thud,” said one onlooker who rushed to the scene.

“Everyone thought the occupants were gone. But miraculously, they all stepped out alive.”

The four occupants, including a young lady, escaped without visible injuries, though visibly shaken by the impact. Witnesses described their survival as nothing short of divine intervention.

“We escaped by a miracle,” one of the survivors muttered moments after the crash, still trembling. “The car could have flipped or burst into flames. We thank God we’re alive.”

Residents and shop owners nearby quickly gathered at the scene, expressing relief that no pedestrians or motorists were caught in the accident, a scenario that could easily have turned fatal given the area’s heavy evening traffic.

“Maryam Babangida Way is fast becoming a death trap because of overspeeding,” a trader lamented. “Drivers treat it like a race track. This is not the first time we’re seeing something like this.”

The incident once again reignites public concern over the rising cases of reckless driving and excessive speeding along the busy Asaba boulevard, which has witnessed multiple near-fatal accidents in recent months.

Residents are calling on traffic enforcement agencies and the Delta State Ministry of Transport to install speed bumps, warning signs, and reflective barriers to check the growing menace before a true tragedy strikes.

As night fell on the city, pieces of shattered glass and skid marks remained, grim reminders of how close Asaba came to mourning another needless road disaster.
