A frontline aspirant for the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA), Ughelli South Constituency, Chief Emuoboh Gbagi, has donated N10 million to the You Matter Charity Foundation in commemoration of the 2026 World Autism Awareness Day.
Gbagi made the donation on Thursday during a colourful ceremony held at Government House, Asaba, describing the contribution as a show of support for the foundation’s humanitarian efforts, particularly for children living with autism and other vulnerable groups.
The event, organised by the Office of the Wife of the Delta State Governor, focused on promoting inclusion, awareness, and improved support systems for individuals on the autism spectrum.
In her remarks, the Wife of the Governor, Tobore Oborevwori, stressed that children with autism are uniquely gifted and should never face discrimination or social exclusion due to misconceptions.
She urged parents and caregivers to embrace their children, noting that autism is a medical condition, not a spiritual issue, and requires proper care, understanding, and early intervention.
“Every child is special and created for a purpose. Children living with autism are not less human; they possess talents that can positively impact society if properly nurtured,” she said.
She further reaffirmed her office’s commitment to championing policies and programmes aimed at improving the welfare of children with special needs across Delta State.
Highlighting inspiring success stories, she referenced a 14-year-old autistic boy attempting a Guinness World Record in endurance cycling, describing such achievements as evidence of the immense potential in every child.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Kingsley Ashibuogwu, reiterated the state government’s commitment to inclusive education, noting that children with autism possess special abilities and deserve equal access to quality learning.
He disclosed that efforts are underway to align the national curriculum with inclusive standards to ensure children with special needs are fully integrated into the education system.
The event attracted notable figures from the entertainment industry, including Nollywood veteran Patience Ozokwor and music star Harrysong, who lent their voices in support of autism awareness.
The 2026 World Autism Awareness Day, themed “Autism and Humanity: Every Life Has Value,” served as a platform to advocate greater acceptance, inclusion, and action to address the challenges faced by individuals on the autism spectrum.
The You Matter Charity Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to sustained advocacy, medical outreach, and support for affected families, while calling on individuals, corporate organisations, and stakeholders to partner in building a more inclusive society.
