BREAKING NEWS: Delta PDP Bleeds, As Ikpokpo Abandons Party For APC

1

Former Delta State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Sir Chief Itiako Constantine Ikpokpo Malik, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ikpokpo, who served as a two-term Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Council from 2017 to 2021, justified his decision by highlighting his unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a desire to align with what he described as “progressive leadership.”

In his resignation letter, Ikpokpo detailed his reflections on Nigeria’s political realities and the leadership challenges in Delta State.

He praised President Tinubu’s administration for its “courageous efforts” to reengineer the nation’s trajectory, calling it a recovery path unlike any seen before.

“I have had deep conversations with leaders across the divide and consulted extensively with political associates,” he noted, emphasizing that his decision to align with the APC was driven by Tinubu’s commitment to a renewed Nigeria.

Acknowledging his 27 years in the PDP, where he built enduring relationships and gained opportunities for leadership, Ikpokpo expressed gratitude but declared it was time to pursue a “new and progressive course” for the benefit of future generations.

His parting note, “It is well,” underscores his final break from a party he had called home for nearly three decades.

Ikpokpo’s defection adds to the growing list of notable politicians leaving the PDP, a move that raises further questions about the party’s internal stability and its ability to retain influential members amidst the growing influence of the APC.
