The Delta State Government has stepped in to address the deplorable condition of the Warri/Sapele/Benin Road, awarding a ₦35 billion reconstruction contract to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
The project, advertised by the State Tenders Board, spans from the Spare Parts Market U-Turn in Effurun to just after Ohore Junction before Omenta Bridge in Uvwie and Okpe LGAs, covering 10 kilometres, five kilometres on each carriageway, with an expanded width of 11.6 metres, including 2.8-metre shoulders.
Designed to be completed within 12 months, the contract also includes stormwater drains, reinforced concrete pavement, and a durable wearing course.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, under his MORE Agenda, has prioritised infrastructure renewal to ease traffic congestion, improve connectivity, and boost economic activity along one of Delta’s busiest gateways.
Although the Warri/Sapele/Benin Road is federally owned, the state’s intervention comes after years of failed sections, gridlock, and frequent accidents that have frustrated motorists and crippled businesses.
By engaging CCECC, renowned for its track record in major road projects, the Oborevwori administration assures Deltans of quality, durability, and timely delivery.
This decisive move underscores the governor’s resolve to provide critical infrastructure beyond state-owned roads, reinforcing Delta’s position as a commercial hub in the South-South.
