In a move that may signal deeper undercurrents within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, Hon. Callistus Ibe Nwawolo of Ward 2, Onicha Ugbo, has tendered his resignation from the party, effective immediately.
In a formally written letter dated April 15, 2025, addressed to the Ward 2 Chairman of the PDP, Nwawolo expressed his decision to “move on with life and explore other avenues and groups.”
While the letter refrains from citing specific reasons for his resignation, the tone suggests a deliberate and personal departure from the party’s fold.
“I wish to resign from the Peoples Democratic Party Onicha Ugbo with effect from today 15/04/2025,” the letter read.
“I have to move on with life and explore other avenues and groups. Bests regards to all of you in your future endeavours.”
This development raises questions about potential internal dissatisfaction or shifting political alignments within the PDP at the ward level.
Nwawolo’s exit could mark the beginning of reconfigurations ahead of future political contests, especially in grassroots mobilization.
Although no replacement has been named, and Hon. Nwawolo has not publicly disclosed any new political affiliations, the resignation could set off a ripple effect, especially if others in Ward 2 share similar sentiments.
The PDP leadership in Delta State has yet to issue a formal response.
As the 2027 election cycle begins to cast its early shadows, political watchers will be paying close attention to the moves of influential grassroots figures like Nwawolo.
Whether this resignation is an isolated personal decision or part of a larger political recalibration remains to be seen.
