The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), in Delta State, Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi, has insisted that the election victory of the candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Sheriff Oborevwori, would be short-lived.
He maintained that SDP would defeat Oborevwori and PDP at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Asaba.
Gbagi, who was the Chairman, Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, said the election revealed the true character of the SDP, as the party Deltans truly needs for development.
Gbagi further explained that contrary to the views of PDP, the outcome of the March 18th election was a loss to the entire State.
He said the conducted election, no doubt has shown the true nature of the Social Democratic Party in the State, pointing out that even those that thought they have won are ashamed of their kangaroo victory.
The SDP flag bearer said the result of the election was unacceptable to him, saying the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal would decide the true winner of the election in due course.
The former minister of state for education and largest private investor in the State made the declaration shortly after the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, adjourned till June 1st for commencement of Pre-hearing.
Speaking to journalists, the renowned Criminologist, explained that the mistake his opponents made was to hold on to the old older, which he said would never work.
The security expert vowed that he would never give up on the journey to liberate Delta State, until victory was achieved.
He noted that the conduct of the election, including the role of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has made the state a laughing stock, adding that the purported winners of the election were ashamed of the process.
Hear him; “The court has just taken a very short adjournment till 1st of June for all parties to settle their issues and whatever paper invitation they have should be settled before the 1st of June before they come here for a for a formal pre-trial.
“The mistake some of them made was to think that it is going to be business as usual but having me in the ballot makes a whole lot of difference.
“These people are not qualified abinitio. We have filed a petition to that effect, they have all actually agreed by their replies that they are not qualified.
“INEC itself, has said so and what else there’s to do? It’s for the tribunal to do what they need to do at the appropriate time.
“The most important thing, is that if you are not qualify, you are not qualified, you can’t change it in law, you are going to see a lot of that.
“This whole process of the tribunal is to make sure that we don’t get criminals into office again”.
Gbagi, who was flanked by party men, women and teeming supporters, at the premises of the Federal High Court, Asaba, the Delta State capital, described Oborevwori’s triumph at the polls as “purported victory”.
“My supporters should rejoice. It is just a matter of time. It is obvious because things are there to prove it. They should rejoice. Patience, is a key element of greatness”, he said.
Also, the State chairman of the party, Chief Mrs. Esther Ikule who corroborated Gbagi’s position, said: “the candidates of the political parties that contested the governorship election are not qualified and that that is true.
“We are seeking for the disqualification of others”, she insisted.
