AYAKOROMO BRIDGE: Oborevwori Demonstrates Audacious Courage — Izeze

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, has hailed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as a leader of “audacious courage” for reviving and re-awarding the long-abandoned Egbo-Ideh/Ayakoromo Bridge project, linking Ughelli South and Burutu Local Government Areas.

Speaking during an inspection of ongoing works on Friday, Izeze said the project had languished for years due to lack of due diligence and structural integrity concerns.

He explained that professional integrity tests revealed that most of the old components were compromised, making it unsafe to proceed under the previous contract.

“Instead of abandoning the bridge or diverting resources elsewhere, the governor made the bold decision to re-award the project to a competent firm.

“What we are seeing today is practically a new bridge being built from scratch, with new pillars, slabs, and a design focused on safety and durability,” Izeze stated.

The commissioner stressed that Governor Oborevwori’s insistence on quality, despite the financial implications, reflects his political will and determination to deliver lasting infrastructure.

He also cautioned against the theft of materials from the demolished sections of the project, directing security agencies to arrest and prosecute offenders.

“That asset belongs to the state. No one is authorized to remove anything from this site except by directive of His Excellency through the Ministry of Works,” he warned.

According to Izeze, the Ayakoromo Bridge is not just an infrastructure project but a “statement of faith in the people” and a testament to Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to fulfilling his promises.

“This administration is leaving no stone unturned. Communities that will benefit from this bridge will remember Sheriff Oborevwori as the governor who dared to do the impossible,” he said.
