Contrary to claims that there was an assassination attempt on the governorship candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Sheriff Oborevwori, the convoy of the PDP gubernatorial candidate, rather ran into an armed robbery scene, The Story can authoritatively report.
Our findings revealed that Oborevwori, in a bid to attract sympathy votes from Deltans in the March 18th governorship election, over blown the report.
Another check disclosed that in his bid to boycott the Arise News Guber Debate, he allegedly twisted the scene in his favour in order not to attend.
An insider source who spoke with The Story, on ground of anonymity, wondered why they kept quiet for two days before disclosing it, “something that happened on Sunday, they didn’t raise the alarm, they waited till Tuesday before speaking out. Can’t you smell rat in the whole thing? The source, asked.
Our impeccable source, said it was wrong for the PDP governorship candidate cum Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA) to claim that it was an assassination attempt.
The source hinted that it was foolish for anyone to try make asn assassination attempt on a convoy of about 12 vehicles in a country like Nigeria, not international terrorism.
The source said Oborevwori, allegedly took advantage of the situation to get public sympathy after purportedly analysing the situation for two days.
Although, the source said the armed robbers while escaping shot at the convoy but insisted that it was not an assassination attempt.
Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Edafe Bright, said: “Our investigation revealed that they ran into an armed robbery operation.
“Though some of the convoy of the Speaker was fired, I am not disputing that fact. The vehicles were shot at but they ran into an armed robbery operation.
“So, we cannot speak for a fact whether it was an assassination attempt. Owing to the fact that our investigation has revealed that they ran into an armed robbery operation that was already ongoing before they entered into them”.
It would be recall that the Chief Press Secretary (CPS), to the Speaker in a statement said: “The convoy of the Delta State PDP Governorship Candidate, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori on Sunday, March 12th, 2023 came under heavy attack from unknown gun men”.
