The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta North Senatorial District has thrown its full weight behind the proposed creation of Anioma State, envisioned as the sixth state in Nigeria’s South-East geopolitical zone.
In a formal letter dated November 3, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of the Senate Sub-Committee on State Creation, Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, the APC Delta North Zonal Chairman, Chief Adizue Eluaka, affirmed that Anioma is “ready for statehood.”
Chief Eluaka emphasized that the people of Delta North are united in their demand, describing the quest for Anioma State as an issue rooted in fairness, equity, and strategic balance within Nigeria’s federal structure.
“The APC Delta North Senatorial District is fully and unequivocally in support of the creation of Anioma State. The realization of Anioma State stands as both a matter of fairness and strategic advantage for the federation,” Eluaka stated.
He noted that there was no dissenting voice within Delta North regarding the proposal, stressing that it reflects the principles of equity and historical continuity long championed by the region’s founding leaders.
Chief Eluaka also urged the Senate to honour the legacy of great Anioma leaders such as Chief Dennis Osadebey, noting that the creation of the new state would enhance national unity, equitable representation, and administrative balance.
Commending Senator Ned Nwoko for his leadership and sponsorship of the Anioma State creation bill, Eluaka said the legislation seeks to correct a longstanding imbalance that leaves the South-East with only five states, compared to six in most other zones and seven in one.
He further noted that the Anioma proposal remains the most detailed and comprehensive among all state creation requests currently before the National Assembly, adding that it has brought renewed national attention to the cause.
Recalling Anioma’s historical experiences during the Nigerian Civil War, Eluaka remarked that the creation of the state would heal old wounds and restore pride among its people.
Reaffirming Anioma’s readiness for statehood, he said the move would significantly boost the South-East’s political representation, landmass, and economic potential.
“The creation of Anioma as the sixth state of the South-East will strengthen Nigeria’s political stability and national unity.
“It is both an act of justice and a reaffirmation of the Senate’s responsiveness to the aspirations of the Nigerian people,” Chief Eluaka concluded.
