The Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA), member-elect Hon. Barr. Bridget Anyafulu, for Oshimili South State Constituency, has said she would give priority to the girl-child, women and youth oriented bill, when she assumes office.
Barr. Anyafulu, a member of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) stated this, after receiving her Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in Asaba, the state capital.
Addressing journalists on Tuesday April 4th at her campaign office, the lawmaker-elect expressed satisfaction with Oshimili South people and residents who stood up for her in ensuring that she wins the just concluded State House of Assembly election conducted 18rh March 2023.
While promising that it would not be business as usual, she said: ‘as we all know well, election is not an end in itself. It is a means to an end. The end, it is important to keep this in mind, is to build a greater Oshimili South and make Oshimili South a veritable home for all its inhabitants.
“It is to build a prosperous, happy and peaceful Delta State where all will be protected, empowered and supported to attain their full potentials. In other words, a society that is devoid of all forms of discrimination, nepotism and favoritism where there is ample opportunity for everyone to thrive. That is our covenant – our desired goal and destination.
“With the mandate given to us by Deltans (Oshimili South), we have a historic opportunity to renew our State and set it on the path of robust growth and sustainable development.
“It is therefore my prayer and most fervent wish that we seize the opportunity to rally behind the Governor-elect and support him to consolidate the stellar accomplishments of Governor Okowa z who over the past eight years has laid a solid foundation for socio-economic development, peace and political stability of the state; as well as implement the MORE Agenda to take the State to a higher plain”.
She called on those that have won election to put the exercise behind them and fulfill their electioneering promises to the masses.
“We have won the election, thank God. It is now time to work the talk and all of us have to join hands together to achieve our goal — to fulfill the convent” she said.
The renowned but humble lawyer cum child rights advocate, dedicated the victory to Oshimili South people, saying “it is a great privilege and honour to be the recipient of the certificate of return for our victory in the electoral contest for Oshimili South seat in the Delta State House of Assembly.
“I must underline once more, it is the victory of Oshimili South, Oshimili South won. I therefore, received this certificate of return on behalf of the people of Oshimili South, not just for the indigenes, but all the inhabitants of our local government area”, she assured.
She congratulated the Governor-elect, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme and every other that emerged victorious in the elections.
She expressed her immense pleasure to be incumbent governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, his wife Dame Edith Okowa, party leaders, community leaders, teeming supporters of PDP across Oshimili South, for their invaluable encouragement and support towards the achievement of the victory.
