The protest carried out by retirees under the platform of Delta State Local Government/Primary School Contributory Retirees, took the State governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa unaware.
The governor’s security aides and other intelligence gathering personnel, placed the governor’s life under risk for the governor to have attended a programme at the Event Centre, only to be whisked out of the premises for fear of being lynched by the protesting senior citizens.
It is the duty of the “Advance Team”, to ensure that the any place the governor is going to is secured before the governor arrives at any event.
Worth acknowledging, is the unison among the old men and women left to their fate by the governor, as the protest didn’t leaked out or the body was not betrayed by bootlickers or in-house enemies, otherwise, the governor won’t have attended the event.
It is equally clear that the political appointees of Okowa, particularly those who were supposed to liaise with the body, were not in touch neither good/cordial working relationship with the retires.
The retirees who were dressed in black, indicated that the protest was a do-or-die affair as they warned police officers who came to prevent them to steer clear as they were for the governor and not security operatives drafted from the headquarter of the State Police Command.
It took the governor to escape by the whisker otherwise the determined retirees would have lynched him if they had access into the venue of the programme tagged: “Magnificent 900”.
The governor could not return through the way he came in his usual routine, but have to go through the back way which is neither an exit gate. That entrance have been placed under lock and key for a long period of time as the angry retirees blocked the entrance and exist gates along High Court Road, off Okpanam Road, Asaba, the State capital.
In the history of the state, no one or group of people has laid siege on a governor as the retirees did to Okowa, on Thursday March 10th 2022.
It would be recall that The Story had exclusively reported that Dr. Okowa, narrowly escaped been lynched by angry retirees under the platform of Delta State Local Government/Primary School Contributory Retirees over unpaid 5-7 years gratuity and other benefits.
