In order to reach more Deltans with his philanthropic gestures, candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi, ahead of the governorship election has promised to give free education to Deltans if elected governor come 2023.
“The reason why we have come is that we will give every true Deltan free education . You cannot be in the river and there is soap in your eyes”.
The former minister of State for education, gave the assurance on Saturday June 25th 2022, when he in company of the national Chairman of the party, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, other gubernatorial, House of Representatives, House of Assembly candidates in other states and Delta received over 5, 000 Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) decampees to SDP at Ugbolokposo, Uvwie local government area of the state.
He said he and the party have perfected a unique model that would guarantee free education to all true Deltans in schools across the state.
According to him, students in primary and secondary schools across the state would enjoy free education like their counterparts, while granting delapidated schools, renovation and retooling windows.
The former minister disclosed that he would revamped the ailing education sector, bridge escalated education deficit, reverse the figures of out-of-school children and uneducated young adults across the state and return the state to its leading position in education in the country.
“We have already perfected a framework that will attract public spirited corporate bodies as well as philanthropic individuals in the state to provide them with regulated financial and material endowments which will, in turn, defray fees and levies being paid by pupils and students in schools”.
Continuing, he said: “We would not have to resort to Okada as a way of life. The reason why we have come with SDP is that we will pay all pensioners whatever is due them because that is their labour and their wages.
“Delta State is a successful, a wealthy and it has money. There is no reason that we should live like other states that do not have the blessing God has given to us”, he declared.
