The incoming Governor of Delta State under the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), His Excellency Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi OON, said that the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has been gradually dying since he left the party to join SDP, in pursuit of his ambition of liberating the state.
He maintained that it had become obvious that since he left the PDP to the SDP, a social movement, the ruling PDP had continued unmitigated in deteriorating in strength and character and had become a shadow of itself.
Since May 23, 2022, when the former minister of State for education, withdrew from the primary election and pitch tent with SDP, PDP has capsized, facing a mirage of problems ranging from defection, to litigations, disloyalty, anti-party activities and lots more.
The SDP governorship candidate, who was one of the founding fathers of PDP in 1998-1999, left the party, leaving only its carcass behind.
The fall of PDP was not entirely because of its less than average economic performance while still in government alone.
The political misadventure of the ruling party was more responsible for its fall from the Olympian height to the abyss of helplessness and hopelessness that is the PDP today.
The exit of the former Chairman, Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, makes the PDP as presently constituted, lacks political value, relevance, goodwill and credibility.
Addressing Delta North traditional rulers at the Palace of the Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof) Chike Endozien, Gbagi insisted that PDP is suffering from its forewarned woes, and should inexcusably face and reap the imminent mass exodus and immanent catastrophy that face the future of PDP.
Gbagi, equally lamented that the state has fallen below expectation despite the human and natural resources God bestowed on the land but were mismanaged by the Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa-led PDP government.
The SDP gubernatorial candidate who expressed worries over the future of the state if Okowa’s stooge, Sheriff Oborevwori, was allowed to govern the state said: “I am very worried because we seemed not to understand the gravity of the problem that we are faced with
“I am worried because Delta State from its height has cascaded to this level. I am very worried because until you traditional rulers takes politics very serious, you will remain at the other end of getting pennies, kobos and technically becoming beggars”, h added.
