Former minister of State for education and Delta State governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the 2023 election, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, has blamed the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) led by the state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and the All Progressives Congress (APC) for running the State and country aground over the years.
Gbagi who was a former chairman of the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, stated that the two major political parties in the State had failed the State and nation to provide succour for Deltans and Nigerians across board because all indices of socio-economic development are daily rising in the negative.
Gbagi, who spoke on Monday in Egbo-Ideh, Otogbo, Okuemo, Otor Owhawha and Iwhroku communities of Ughievwen kingdom, Ughelli south local government area of the state during a tour, expressed regret over the plights of commuters plying the deplorable Egbo-Ideh and other roads.
“As rich as Delta State, look at the roads. as I was coming, I laid curses on the PDP and APC because they have people representing you. This is not my election, it is for all of us. This is a must do, think deeply.
“They want you people to suffer, reject them. I have only come to introduce myself to the elders, youths and women”, he announced.
The largest private investor knocked the PDP and APC-led State and Federal governments for abandoning the people to suffer on the road despite the enormous resources and wealth in the state.
While calling on the people to have trust in the SDP to transform the State and place it on the right path of progress, he explained that the party had been experiencing surge in membership in the last few months since he joined the platform.
According to him, the rising cases of insecurity across the State and excruciating economic policies which he said had resulted in poverty and unemployment were enough reasons for the people to reject the ruling party.
He said, “the way we are going now is one way to disaster in the state”.
Gbagi who was also the Chairman of Delta Property Development Authority (DDPA) told them that “SDP is the party that Olorogun Felix Ibru used in winning election in Delta State and MKO Abiola equally used the platform to coast to victory as president.
He said “As we move from one community to the other, so many people who are tired of the deception of PDP and APC have joined. Do not allow them to deceive you people again for you to suffer for another eight years.
“On that day, vote for the SDP, if you do that you have voted for your own son and for your own good and that of your children are children yet unborn. Because this is the first an Ughievwen son is vying for governorship of Delta State.
“We have seen the performance of the PDP and APC and all of us believe that they have failed woefully and nobody should expect anything good from them again.
“These people in the two parties have failed and failed woefully, they have nothing to offer. Look at the roads, you have no power supply over the years and you say you have umbrella and brooms?
“It is a very terrible thing and worrisome situation for you to have umbrella and brooms and yet whenever the rain falls, the umbrella cannot hold the rain and you sweep with the brooms, your houses are dirty the more.
“In the month of October, campaigns will fully commence. It won’t be good for me not to tour the communities in Ughievwen kingdom.
“You have an umbrella and you are under the rain, it is unfair and you have the broom, yet your houses are dirty, it’s not good. Hence, we are coming with the horse known for its strength.
“You go around the areas, you hardly see anything happening, poverty is at the highest level in this state, insecurity also at its peak and we can’t continue like that, because the way we are going now is one way to disaster in the state.
“So, the only way to avert that disaster is for Deltans to go and sell the ideas of SDP which is a party for social movement and vote for the party come 2023.
“My government is the government of the youths. As I entered the community, I wept. I will do the roads by the time I assume as the governor of the state and we will celebrate”, Gbagi added.
