Youth Leader Arrested With AK-47, Four Suspected Kidnappers Nabbed in Delta

Delta State Police Command has arrested Victor Edavwe, a youth leader from Ekpan community, for unlawful possession of an AK-47 rifle and 44 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.

This was disclosed in a statement released on Wednesday by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright.

According to the statement, Edavwe, who serves as the youth president of Ekpan community, was apprehended on March 15, 2025, following intelligence reports suggesting he had recently acquired the weapon.

Acting on the tip-off, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ekpan Division, CSP Aliyu Shaba, led a team to Shrine Street in Ekpan where Edavwe was arrested.

During interrogation, Edavwe provided information that led police operatives to the residence of an accomplice identified only as Efe, also known as “Eteyomo.”

A search of the premises resulted in the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one single barrel gun, three cutlasses, two daggers, and 44 rounds of live ammunition hidden in the roof of the sitting room.

Both suspects are in custody as investigations continue.

In a related operation, police arrested four suspected armed robbers and kidnappers on March 16, 2025, around the Jeddo axis of Okpe Local Government Area.

The suspects, identified as Endurance Oghoghome (38), Blessing Oghoghome (46), Marvellous Dissy (43), and Jonas Orogho (38), were apprehended following intelligence-led operations by the Ekpan police.

The suspects led officers to their hideout in Jeddo community, where a search yielded one English pump-action shotgun, two locally made single-barrel guns, one fabricated Beretta pistol, a cut-to-size gun, and a live cartridge.

All suspects and recovered weapons are in custody, with investigations ongoing.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the Ekpan police team for their swift and professional response.

He also noted that residents of Jeddo community have expressed relief and gratitude following the arrests.
