Members of a local security outfit, Agbor-Nta Vigilante group in Agbor, Ika south local government area of Delta State, has arrested a suspected fulani herdsman, Abu Alli, lurking in the forest of the community.
The young Fulani boy was arrested following an intelligent report by a female farmer in the community.
Upon the information, the vigilante group led by its chairman, Mr. Francis Ofuonyeafuzor, raided the bush wherein the suspect was arrested.
It was alleged that the young Fulani boy act as surveillance for herdsmen who have been unleashing terror on residents and travellers.
It was also alleged that the suspect had on several occasions stole crops such as yam, pepper among other items to feed himself while living in the bush.
As at press time, the culprit was matched to the community head who directed that a team of the community youths, hunters and the vigilante to raid the forest.
Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to have lived in the bush for a period of time, claiming to indulge in herbs production.
He also confessed to have also lived in bushes of some communities in Agbor but was chased.
When asked why he didn’t live among the people of the community if his work in the bush was genuine, the suspect could not respond.
Speaking with newsmen, Mr. Francis Ofuonyeafuzor who doubled as Ihuyase Vigilante Chairman, narrated the story of the boy’s capture, adding that cut-to-size Cutlass and charms were found in his possession while the makeshift he lived right inside the forest, was brought down.
According to him, “raiding of the forest would serve as a good signal to inform his gang (herdsmen) that Agbor-Nta farms and forest won’t be allowed for their criminal act.
He acknowledged that Agbor kingdom is a home of hospitality, but a crime for a complete stranger to live in the bush.
As at the time of filing this report, the suspect was handed over to the police for further investigation.
