Nemesis caught up with the young man as he was caught with a stolen vehicle battery in the Rubber Plantation area, Cemetery Road in the wee hours of Monday July 27, 2020.
Ekun, who owned up to the crime disclosed that they were two member-gang who specialized in the act of stealing batteries of parked vehicles.
According to him, his colleague in crime whom he named as Godbless out-ran the security men and that the said Godbless was the one that had the master key which they used in unlocking parked vehicles.
The suspect further confessed that they also specialized in stealing of concrete slabs used in covering gutters and that they were the brains behind the missing concrete slabs in gutters in front MRS Filing Station along Warri/ Sapele Road by Cemetery Road Junction.
He later took the vigilante men to where a dark blue Jetta car was parked at Igbudu Market as he confessed that the battery was removed from the said car.
It was gathered that the vandalized car was stolen from his owner who lived in far away Okumagba Estate area of the town.
Identity card and other vital documents of the owner of the car were seen inside the car.
A call was then put across to the owner of the car, one Sunday Nnoworie who confirmed that his car was stolen from where it was parked on Friday July 24, 2020.
The Chairman of Igbudu Unit 11, Chief Julius Edafiadjebre who was called to the scene of the crime by the investigating security outfit attested that there had been cases of stolen vehicle batteries in the area and that he was a two-time victim.
The suspect had earlier confessed that stolen vehicle batteries were sold for N2, 500 each and that a set of five concrete slabs were sold for N20, 000.
He also led men of Red Bar Vigilante Security Organization to the store of one of the alleged buyers of stolen vehicle batteries who was arrested with him to the Police ‘ A’ Divisional Headquarters, Warri.
