A top Boko Haram leader has been reportedly arrested by the Department of State Security (DSS) in Ogun State.

It was gathered that the suspected Boko Haram leader was arrested at Ijaye area of Abeokuta, the state capital.

According to reports, the terrorist leader came in from Katsina State and took up a security job to act as cover while coordinating kidnapping and terror attacks in Ogun State.

It was also learnt that the arrested man was setting up terrorist cells and gathering information for attacks.

Luck however ran out on him after security operatives got wind of his activities and stormed the Ijaye area to capture him.

A source quoted by Daily Trust on Sunday night said the Boko Haram leader put up a fight when the DSS operatives arrived in the area but eventually bowed to superior firepower and has since been arrested.

“It was not an easy ride. Intelligence and the grace of God were sufficient for the operatives. There are still many of them around, but we are on top of our game,” the source said.

The arrested suspect is currently in DSS custody, it was gathered.

When contacted by the platform for a confirmation of the story, the DSS Spokesman, Dr Peter Afunanya, simply replied “no comment,” to the inquiry.

On his part, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said he was not aware of any arrest.

The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has said it is on alert to defend the commercial city from any form of attack from terrorists.

Naija News understands that the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said this while speaking during a webinar space over the weekend.

Hundeyin made the bold statement while reacting to reports that dreaded Boko Haram terrorists and its affiliate, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) are planning to attack the state, as well as some parts of the country.

Reports had claimed that the two sects were planning to invade some parts of the North-West, North-Central and South-West.
