A post by one Felix Idehen, on Facebook, described the incidence as unfortunate, wondering why some people would take the law into their hands.

“It is unfortunate that some persons are taking the law into their hands in the name of community policing.

“The near death experience of Mr Etuokwu Success, an indigene of Ohumere  and a driver by profession in the hands of Mr. Amaechi Akpolo led Vigilantee group of Nigeria on Thursday, 5 August , 2021 calls for urgent concern by the conventional security agencies and stakeholders”.

An eyewitness account narrated that Amaechi with his Vigilante group came to the Ohumere  residence of Mr. Etuokwu Success in the early hours of August 5, accused him of breaking into Mama Franca’s Shop located at Ogbemudein community the previous night to steal.

Acckrding to the eyewitness who pleaded anonymity for fear if been killed, said Success debunked the allegation but got the shocker of his life.

“He vehemently denied, saying that he never left his home that night and his wife affirming so.

“His explanation fell on deaf ears as Anaechi with his boys gave him a beating of his life until they thought that he has passed away before they involved the Police”, the source alleged.

Idehen, said: “Our position is that it is a clear case of false accusation, dehumanization, intimidation, abuse of fundamental human rights and as such we demand for thorough investigation by the police for justice to be served.

“We will continue to monitor and press for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights to life as we enjoined the Agbor Police Divisional Headquarters to do their job professionally”, he added.

Painstaking efforts made to reach Amaechi Akoplo, to get his side of the story proved abortive at press time.
