Following the loss of lives and wanton destruction of property, the Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has approved the setting up of a 6-man Judicial Panel of Inquiry to look into the lingering crisis.
This was disclosed on Thursday September 30th 2021, by the Secretary to the State government (SSG), Chief Patrick Ukah, in a Government Special Announcement.
The announcement disclosed that apart from the killings and destruction of property, several others have been displaced from their fatherland.
According to Ukah, “the panel is the establish the remote and immediate causes of the crisis, to ascertain the roles played by various individuals, groups and their sponsors in the crisis and apportioned blames where necessary and to look into and resolve other issues as a means for bringing lasting peace to the community”.
Justice S.O.N Oghene, is to chair the Judicial Panel while Mr. T. C. Aguonye, the functioning Permanent Secretary (PS), Directorate of Political and Security Service, is to serve as the Secretary to the panel.
Other members are: the representative of the Commissioner of Police, representative of the State Director, State Security Service, Mr. N. P. Isibor and Mr. J. I Ebinum, Esq,.
The Panel is expected to sit for six weeks from the date of their inauguration.
It would be recall that Evwreni community in Ughelli north local government area of the State, was engulfed in crisis as a result of alleged high-handedness and intimidation of indigenes by local vigilante loyal to the Palace.
