Suspects Accused Of Flogging 19 Months Old Baby To Death Allegedly Release On Bail In Delta

The teacher and son of the owner of Arise and Shine Nursery and Primary School, Camp 74, Asaba, Emeka Joshua and his mother who allegedly flogged a 19 month old pupil, Obinna Udeze, to death, has been purportedly released on bail.

It was also learnt that the school which was closed by the State government, is currently undergoing renovation in preparation to reopened for academic activities.

A post by Harrison Gwamnishu, on his Facebook page, disclosed that the suspects have been released on bail.

“Today we received information that the suspects have been released on bail and moved to re-open the school and have started renovation.

“Our intervention team led by Harrison Gwamnishu visited the school and re-sealed the school”, warning that unless justice is served, the school would not be reopened.

Contacted to confirm the alleged release, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Edafe Bright, said: “That case was charged to court. So what release are u talking about?

It would be recall that the state government said it would follow the case of alleged killing of of Obinna Udeze, the one year and seven months old pupil of Arise and Shine Nursery and Primary School, Camp 74, Oshimili north local government area of the state to a logical conclusion.

Addressing journalists on Monday February 14th 2022, at the State Police headquarter, the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said: “As a state government, we are very much interested in this matter because as a government we care for the life of any person whether you are a Deltan or not”.

He expressed satisfaction over the efforts of the “We are impressed with the police over the manner they have handled the matter so far”.

He disclosed that the wife of the state governor, Dame Edith Okowa, has led a team to visit the school and the mother of the victim.

“And we will ensure that the state government follow this matter to its logical conclusion, observing the tenets of the law”.

Also speaking, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ari Muhammed Ali, who gave the name of the suspect as Emeka Joshua, a 24-year-old young man who is the son of the proprietress cum teacher of the Obinna Adaeze, the one year and seven months old boy flogged to coma, resulting into his death at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba.

According to the Police boss, “the child was at the hospital from 10:00am to 12;00noon. A call was made to the DPO, that the child has given up the ghost”.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ali, disclosed that a full blown investigation would be carried out, “what is left now, is for the police to open up full blown investigation. For now, it was alleged that it is the suspect that killed the boy.

“Whether or not it is the suspect, it is left for the medical doctor that is going to do the optosy to confirm that while investigation is ongoing. For now, I call on all members of the public to exercise restrain” he added.

It would also be recall that Gift Udeze, the mother of 19-month-old boy, Obinna Udeze, who was allegedly flogged by his teacher at the Arise and Shine Nursery and Primary school rejected claims made by doctors that the baby may have died as a result of excessive stooling and vomiting
