In an appalling display of unprofessionalism, two teachers at Ibru College, Agbara-Otor, Ughelli north local government area of Delta State, engaged in a public brawl within the school premises, shocking students and staff alike.
This shameful incident raises serious concerns about the kind of values these educators are instilling in their students.
In a viral video circulating on social media, an older teacher was seen gripping the neck of a younger colleague in a firm hold, asserting dominance in the scuffle.
The younger teacher’s neck was locked in the elder’s grasp, clearly showing his struggle as students watched and recorded the embarrassing scene from outside the classroom.
A female teacher on wine gown, made repeated but unsuccessful attempts to break up the fight, continuously calling out the name “Edu,” which appeared to be a short form of “Endurance.”
Meanwhile, another man, dressed in a tie, was also seen at the scene, echoing the same name in an effort to defuse the situation.
What may have started as a verbal disagreement quickly spiraled into a full-blown physical altercation, with both men exchanging blows in front of stunned students and staff.
The disgraceful spectacle disrupted academic activities and left many questioning the moral and ethical standards of those entrusted with shaping the minds of the next generation.
This further questions what example they are setting for the children. How can teachers, who should be role models, resort to such barbaric behavior in a place of learning?”
The incident has sparked outrage among parents and community members, with many calling for strict disciplinary action against the teachers involved.
If educators cannot resolve conflicts amicably, they are unfit to teach young minds about discipline, respect, and conflict resolution.
The Delta State Ministry of Education has been urged to take swift action to address the situation, ensuring that such disgraceful acts never repeat themselves.
Schools should be safe havens for learning, not battlegrounds for personal disputes. If educators fail to uphold basic standards of conduct, how can they expect students to do the same?
This shameful episode at Ibru College is a stark reminder that those in positions of authority must always uphold the values they seek to instill in others.
The integrity of the teaching profession must be protected at all costs, and there should be no room for such embarrassing acts within our schools.
