Unknown gunmen have beheaded a 53 year old king, Okwudili Obi, the traditional ruler of Asamokwu community in Ndokwa east local government area of Delta State.
It was gathered that the killers, equally ambushed and murdered four soldiers in the community.
The incident which happened on Thursday has caused tension in the community.
Impeccable sources revealed that the assailants waylaid the soldiers, killing three of them on the spot with several others sustaining varying degree of injuries.
It was learnt that those who sustained gun wounds were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, the Delta State capital for medical attention.
A source said: “The hoodlums ambushed the Army personnel and killed three of them while others were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba.
“One of the injured soldiers died at the FMC. As I speak, the community is on fire, soldiers are everywhere now.
“The traditional ruler of the village was also beheaded in the crisis, and residents have deserted the area”.
Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the killing of the traditional ruler.
He said though no arrest have been made, the police are making progress in their investigation.
According to him, “Yes, it is confirm. For now, no arrest but we are making progress”, he assured.
He gave the name of rhe beheaded king as Okwudili Obi.
Although, it was learnt that the crisis is between two communities in the local government area however, the cause of the crisis is yet to be ascertained.
At press time, efforts to reach the Army Public Relations Officer, 63 Brigade, Asaba, Major Y.N. Cabara, proved abortive.
