A yet to be identified police officer attached to the Delta State Police Command, has purportedly stabbed a man identified as Mr. Chukwunalu Igwebeze, in Ibusa, Oshimili north local government area of the state.
Trouble started on 20th January 2022, when the victim who was at a beer parlour to hang out with a friend in the area, got engaged in a heated argument between the police officer who came to the beer parlour with his colleagues in a Patrol Van, to purchase a drink, “Action Bitter”, drew out his dagger and stab Chukwunalu, leaving him in the pool of his blood.
The dagger happy police officer, first engaged in a query with the owner of the beer parlour whose name was not disclosed after he also brought out the dagger to stab him but the wife waded in after he was denied the drink by the shop owner who said he has closed shop due to time, Ojei said in his petition.
According to the DG, Young Nigerian Rights Organization, the police officer allegedly heaped insult on the wife of the beer parlour owner when the victim Chukwunalu, in a bid to prevent further altercations asked the police officer to stop as he would not be happy if such words were spoken to his wife.
Miffed by Chukwunalu’s approach, the police officer drew out his dagger for the second time to “bisect”, the stomach of Chukwunalu, while others who were around took to their heels as the police team zoomed off for fear of being attacked, abandoning the victim to die which caused the shop owner to raised alarm for help.
In a petition made available to The Story, by the activist, the police have abandoned the victim at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, after the General Hospital, Ibusa rejected him due to the condition, Ojei, alleged.
Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Edafe Bright, in a WhatsApp message, said: “Suspect is still being detained in state cid, I am aware, but more details I can get later in d day”.
