Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Umunede Divisional Headquarters have arrested two young men, Emeke Onyemaechi and Agu Ifeanyi, suspected to be armed robbers at Mbiri, Ika north east local government area of Delta State.
It was gathered that the suspects, said to be notorious criminals, were alleged to be behind series of crimes in the locality and environ.
Sources said that the suspects, Emeke and Agu both in their early 20s were nabbed during a routine road block mounted by the police and anti-cult group around the community market at Mbiri-Umunede Road.
Our sources revealed that the two boys were riding on a motorcycle with registration number AGB 89 VN when the security operatives accosted them and after thorough search, a locally made pistol was discovered in their bag.
It was further gathered that in recent weeks, criminal activities had been on the increase on the said road due to bad state of road which occasioned the posting of security operatives to the area.
Sources close to the police disclosed that the suspects had been transferred to the police headquarters in Asaba for further investigation.
Confirming their arrest in a telephone conversation, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, said: “Confirmed, they were on a motorcycle when the Crime Patrol team from Umunede, caught the two of them.
“Emeke Onyemaechi and Agu Ifeanyi. They are both 24 years. When they were searched, the gun was recovered from Onyemaechi”, he revealed.
