Police Halt Plans To Attack Bank, Nab Gang Leader In Delta

A 32-year-old Joshua Ogheneovo, of Uduphori town, Patani local government area of Delta State, suspected to be a ring leader of a robbery syndicate planning to attack customers of First Bank in Ughelli, the administrative headquarter of Ughelli north local government area of the state, has been arrested.

A press release on Wednesday April 7th 2021, by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Edafe Bright, disclosed that his arrest followed intelligence gathered “that a robbery syndicate is planning to attack and rob unsuspecting customers and dispossess them of their valuables and money at Ughelli First Bank”.

According to the image maker, “On 7th April 2021, the Commander Eagle-Net Special Squad, SP. Dimka Usman mobilized his men of Eagle net special squad led by DSP. Yunusa Danyaya on intensive stop and search operation in a bid to prevent such ugly situation from occurring.

“While on the stop and search duty,  one of a notorious ring leader Joshua Ogheneovo, was apprehended, stressing that exhibits recovered include one double barrel automatic pump action gun with 25 rounds of live cartridges, one Toyota Highlander Jeep ash colour with Reg. No. DSZ 348 KM and one Bontel handset.

The PPRO stated that the suspect confessed that the said Highlander Jeep was snatched from the owner on gun point, assuring that effort is ongoing for the possible arrest of the remaining gang members, “in no time, they will be brought to book”.

In another development, “On 4th April 2021, the chairman of a Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) of Zone 12 Hausa Quarters Warri reported that on the same date, he received a phone call from one Onajite Okolejo, 36 years a VGN member working under the unit that he was being attacked by some armed gang.

“The DPO ‘A’ Division Warri, CSP T.Y Mammud mobilized patrol team immediately to the scene and rescued the victim to the hospital, while in the hospital, the boy made a dying declaration that one of the suspect that attacked and shot him  was a boy called Sahlisu, surname unknown AKA Black Arrow; and he is the biological Son of Etsu Nupe of Hausa Quarters, Warri.

“The Commissioner of police Delta state CP Ari Muhammed Ali, mandated that the Divisional Police must do everything possible to see that these suspects are arrested and brought to book, the DPO ‘A’ Division Warri CSP T.Y Mammud in compliance with the CP’S directive, moved into action.

“Expanded his tentacles, through intelligence gathering and discreet investigation tracked and arrested one Abdulrazaq Mohammed, 25 years who confessed to be among the gang that murdered the victim and also corroborated what the deceased VGN Member said,  that it was him and  Etsu Nupe’s son Sahlisu, surname unknown AKA Black Arrow; that attacked and shot the deceased”.

He assured that effort is ongoing to arresting the fleeing suspect, calling on members of the public to give all information that would lead to the arrest of the other suspect.
