The Delta State Police Command has foiled a suspected armed robbery operation in Agbor, arresting one suspect and recovering weapons and other incriminating items.
The incident occurred in the early hours of April 4, 2026, following a distress call from residents of Full Current Compound in Alihame, Agbor, who reported that a group of about eight armed men were attempting to forcefully gain entry into their premises.
Acting swiftly on the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbor Division deployed an Anti-Crime Patrol team to the scene.
Upon arrival, operatives found that one of the suspects had already been overpowered by residents during a struggle.
The suspect, identified as Emeka Ernest, 41, from Ukpo in Anambra State, sustained injuries in the process and was subsequently taken into police custody.
He was later rushed to the General Hospital, Agbor, where he is currently receiving treatment.
A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of one live cartridge from the suspect, while two expended cartridges, a battle axe, a red cloth suspected to have been used as a face mask, and a mobile phone were also recovered.
In a follow-up operation on April 6, based on the suspect’s confession, police operatives recovered a locally fabricated single-barrel gun concealed near the scene in Alihame, Agbor.
The Police said investigation is ongoing, with efforts intensified to apprehend other members of the gang who remain at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the prompt response of officers and the vigilance of residents, assuring the public of the Command’s continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
He urged residents to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious activities to the Police.
