Police Foil Kidnap Attempt, Recover AK-47 Rifle, Other Dangerous Weapons In Delta

Operatives of Delta State Police Command and local vigilante have foiled a kidnap attempt by suspected hoodlums to whisk guests at the graduation ceremony of student of Delta State Polytechnic Oghara, Ethiope West local government area of the State.

The suspected hoodlums, who had perfected arrangements, came in a speed boat to Oghara on a kidnap mission that was thwarted by the police and the local vigilance team.

A release on Monday August 19, 2024, by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Edafe Bright, said “The DPO Oghara Division, CSP Olasunkanmi Musiliu acting on this information reacted swiftly, mobilized, and led operatives of Oghara Division to their hideout in a bush along Otefe/ Ovade Legit Road”.

According to the image maker, the police recovered dangerous weapons from the gangsters.

Hear him: “On 13th August 2024, while students of Delta State Polytechnic Oghara were having their graduation ceremony, the DPO Oghara Division received credible information that some suspected kidnappers had already perfected plans to kidnap guests who must have come to attend the ceremony.

“The suspected kidnappers on sighting the Police took to their heels and escaped with various degrees of gunshot injuries from the gun duel with the Police.

One AK-47  Riffle, one magazine, one  English pump action gun, and one locally made cut-to-size gun were recovered. Manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing”.

Similarly, on 14th of August 2024, Police anti-crime patrol team of Oghara Division while on stop and search along Otefe Ijomi Community Road, intercepted a motorcycle carrying one Ovoke Benedict aged 22, a native of Ughelli north local government area, and a computer science student of Delta State Polytechnic Otefe, Oghara.

Also, one Fredrick Urhoborume “m” aged 23 of Ughelli north local government area, a student of Business Administration Delta State Polytechnic Otefe Oghara.

“The Policemen subjected them to a search during which one locally made cut-to-size gun with six (6) live cartridges was recovered from them.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that they are suspected to be members of Arrow Barger Confraternity”, adding that investigation is ongoing.

The PPRO, said the Commissioner of Police in the State CP Olufemi Abaniwonda while thanking the good people of the State urged them to do more by providing useful, credible and timely information to the Police and this will aid immensely in the fight against crime and criminality.
