… As DPO Detain Officers In Allege Brutality
Men of the Nigerian Police Force, Delta State Command, have allegedly beaten one Victor Oyibo, a Councilor representing Jesse, Ethiope West Legislative Arm.
Trouble started Thursday February 24th 2022, when the Police Team from Sapele Police Division in a Commando style, purportedly blocked Oyibo, with their white Hilux and assaulted him at Okirighwere area of Sapele.
According to a reliable source, the Councilor, who people described as a calm lawmaker, was driving on that fateful day evening, when the Police Hilux barricaded him in front of Bakpor Fuel Station, Sapele, the administrative headquarter of Sapele local government area of the state.
Sources disclosed that the police claimed that Oyibo batched thier Hilux and requested he comes down from his car but he refused as their drove in an unregistered car.
On refusal to come down from his car, on grounds that he didn’t collide with their Hilux, coupled with the unregistered plate number, considering the security situation in the country, as the police were allegedly on Mufti.
Miffed with his refusal to comply with their directive, one of the officers allegedly punched him on his nose with many below.
It was gathered that onlookers and passersby accused the police of oppressive tendencies on the Councilor.
It was gathered that the Councilor made a video of the scene, as there was no scratch, suggesting that the Police Hilux Van was not batched.
It was learnt that the issue generated a lot of dust, the police was accused of brutality and a case of alleged extortion
‘The next day the Councilor went to the, the Sapele Local Government Chairman, Ethiope West Local Government chairman and Barr. John Nani, have indicated interest in the mater.
“The Sapele DPO has pleaded with the Councilor and apologized on behalf of his men. However, the DPO has taken action against the officer that punched the Councilor’s nose with punch. The DPO has also detained the officer and asked him to take care of the Councilor treatment”, a source said.
At press time, text message sent to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Edafe Bright, was not replied.
