This is coming on the heels of reported cases of mobile phone stealing by hoodlums in Asaba and other parts of the state just as the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ari Muhammed Ali, has directed that Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) must do all they could to ensure that these syndicate are brought to book.
In compliance with the CP directives, DPOS have been on the look out, leading to the arrest of a three man syndicate.
A release on Thursday 11th March 2021, by the Ag. Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Edafe Bright, revealed that suspects were picked at various locations across the state.
According to the image maker, “On 11th March 2021, base on intelligence gathering, one Chukwuemeka Onyeogbeyesoi, of Agbor-Obi was arrested at Ikem Hotel by a team of Agbor Police divisional patrol team and local vigilante, one locally made short gun, two cartridges and one expanded cartridge were recovered from him.
“On 9th March 2021, Safe Delta patrol teams 017 and 081 during a stop and search along General Hospital road by Owa-Alero intercepted one Festus Onuelue aka Supper, on interrogation and search one cut to size locally made pistol, three live cartridges was recovered from him.
In another development, “On the 8th March 2021, the Divisional Police Officer Issele-Uku Division received a distress call from an indigene of Udumuje-Ugboko, that he suspected a man to be in possession of firearm, immediately patrol team was deployed to the scene, one Udensi David of Udumuje-Ugboko was arrested and a double barrel gun with a live cartridge was recovered from him.
In same vein, “On 6th March 2021, a case of missing tricycle was reported by one Olinya Ernest, he complained that he woke up in the morning to discover that his keke has been removed from where it was parked.
“The DPO ‘A’ Division Asaba, CSP Fasugba Temitope immediatly directed Men of ‘A’ Division Asaba to move into action, investigation started immediately, as a result, two suspects, Kossisor Chukwu and Nwete Sunday were arrested and the said tricycle with Reg. No. BBG 848 QV was recovered from them In Anambra state.
Similarly, “On 3rd March 2021, a syndicate of three young men who specializes in using commercial motorcycle and tricycle to snatch mobile phones from their victims were intercepted by men of ‘A’ Division Asaba, after snatching one Techno Camon 15 phone valued N63, 000 from one Adedeji Samuel Adeyomi along Nnebisi Road Asaba.
“On sighting the police, they jumped from the motorcycle and tried to escape, Obi Ebie, 16 years was arrested while others escaped”, stressing that effort is on to arrest the fleeing suspects”, hinting that investigations are on going into the various cases.
