Trouble started on 16th March 2021, when information got to Sapele Division that one Abowa Osawe, was shot and killed by four men suspected to be cultists in Sapele.
A press statement on Wednesday 17th March 2021, signed by the Ag. Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Edafe Bright, disclosed that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Harrison Nwabuisi, mobilized to the scene and arrested four suspects.
“The Divisional Police officer CSP Harrison Nwabuisi quickly mobilized men to the scene, and commenced investigation immediately. With the combined effort of the police and vigilante, five suspects, including Timothy Clark, 27 years, Patrick Mbuk, 29 years.
Others are “Gift Omofeye, 26 years, Ogburang Samuel Ibe, 31 years and Onyekachi Amadike, 24 years were arrested in connection to the murder”, disclosing that on interrogation, confessional statement of the suspects led to the arrest of one Andrew, AKA Pounds who has been a notorious cultist, terrorizing Sapele before now.
The image maker stated that a yellow cult regalia, one locally made pistol and two cartridges were recovered from him while the vehicle used in the dastardly act, a Red Toyota Camry with Reg No. AAA409 GL was recovered just as he noted that the suspects confessed to be members of Aiye Cult.
Similarly, on 16th March 2021, the Divisional Police Officer Ovwian Aladja Division, acting on a tip off that four armed men were robbing road users along Ovwian express junction Udu road, immediately mobilized patrol team in conjunction with local vigilante to the scene.
The PPRO, revealed that the hoodlums on sighting the patrol team opened fire on the team while the police engaged them in a gun duel and gun down one of the hoodlums while others escaped.
One locally made double barrel pistol with two cartridges were recovered, while a manhunt for the other suspects is ongoing, DSP Bright said.
