Panic Grips Okwuama Indigenes As Okoloba Abducts Eight Persons

Indigenes and other residents of Okwuama community in Ughelli south local government area of Delta State are currently living in fear as Okoloba community in Bomadi local government area of the State has been on a steady attack without government and police intervention as no fewer than eight persons were abducted.

The incidents persists unabated including molestation and constant threat to their lives with gunboats and sporadic shooting into Okwuama community on daily basis.

It was gathered that Okoloba community laid siege on Okwuama community with four 200 hundred power speedboats heavily armed with dangerous weapons shooting sporadically into Okwuama community.

It was learnt that they equally use other gunboats to monitor the community.

Trouble started today Saturday January 27th 2024, as traders from Okwuama community, who were returning from Okwagbe market were abducted in a Commando style and taken into hostage by Okoloba community.

Similarly, on Thursday 25th 2024, Okoloba community attacked a stranger in Okwuama, who went to farm beating him to stupor.

The victim was later rescued and taken to traditional meeting square locally known as Ogwa, as nobody was ready to risk his/her life to rush the victim to the hospital.

Reports from the community indicated that if the victim were to be an indigene of Okwuama, Okoloba community would have killed him.

Indigenes and other residents in Okwuama community are presently living in perpetual fear as neither the State government and security agencies are practically doing nothing about the ugly situation.

Reliable information revealed that the victims are yet to be released at press time as their families and other community members were yet to set their eyes on them.

Meanwhile, a peace talk meeting between Okoloba and Okwuama Communities has been scheduled with the traditional ruler of Akugbene kingdom in Warri, tomorrow Sunday 28th 2024, before Okoloba struck again.

It was reliably learnt that several efforts have been made by community leaders to the Sheriff Oborevwori-led administration to put an end to the renewed hostility to no avail.

It would be recall that The Story reported that fresh crisis was brewing between Okoloba and Okwuama villages after Okoloba held two of Okwuama Indigenes hostage demanding for N600, 00 ransom before their release.

Contacted before the news of the recent abduction, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Edafe Bright, said the police are on top of the matter.
