The abandoned Owhrode-Orhunwhorhun road in Udu local government area of Delta State, has has not only been abandoned but it has become impassable.
It was gathered that the road was awarded to a contractor by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), years ago.
The people of the communities have called on the federal, state and local government to call on the contractor handling Owhrode/Orhuwhorhun link Road, to return to site.
The neglected, road has become a death trap to residence occasioned by the deplorable state of the road.
It was learnt that the Owhrode-Orhuwhorhun road was a star project constructed during the administration of Chief James Ibori.
Findings revealed that the road has a lot of economic benefits to Owhrode indigenes as the community was a fast growing community in time past.
The nature of the road presently has made the once economic viable Community to a sorry state.
The people of Owhrode are handcuffed with bad road from the Otor-Udu end through Erhiephihor, Ovwodokpokpor not to mention the Orhuwhorhun axis to Owhrode which is impassable, this bad road menace has made life meaningless to the indigenes and residence of the area.
The once tarred road has become an earth road and needs an urgent step for reconstruction, “We therefore us this medium to call on our superlative Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege,. representing Delta Central and Rev. Hon. Ejiroghene Waive, the member representing Ughelli north, Ughelli south and Udu federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, to speed up action by recalling the contractor handling the road project back to site to ease the suffering of Owhrode Community and other road users”, Indigenes said.
They also used the medium to call on the House of Assembly member representing Udu State Constituency, Chief. Peter O. Uviejitobor, to act on the reconstruction of Erhiephihor, Ovwodokpokpor, Owhrode road as the road is gradually approaching a death trap to the people in that area.
“It is our prayers that God will give our government representatives the kind heart to work out these needs of the people”.
