Months After Attack, UBA Issele-Uku Branch, Yet To Resume Operation

Eight months after daredevil bandits killed a Police Inspector, the Coordinator of Anioma Security Network, Sunday Osichei Mordi and four others at the United Bank of Africa (UBA), Issele-Uku branch, Aniocha north local government area of Delta State, the bank is yet to resume operation.

The ugly incident which occurred on Tuesday March 30th 2021, was the third in the series of robbery at the UBA bank branch carried out successfully and unhindered.

Although, when The Story, visited Issele-Uku for on the spot assessment, rehabilitation work at the bank is still ongoing, it was learnt that the bank may resume operation next year.

It would be recall that the bandits stormed the new generation bank in three vehicles, brandishing various weapons and suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED), used in blowing off the security door of the bank before taking it and customers hostage for several hours.

Trouble started on that fateful day at about the closing hours when the criminals stormed the Issele-Uku branch of the bank, shooting sporadically to scare members of the public away.

It was gathered that dynamites were used on the security door, causing it to shatter completely before gaining access into the banking hall.

It was reliably learnt that about four persons were allegedly killed as the presence of the hoodlums with their dangerous weapons allegedly chased away the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and his men before mounting road block for their unhindered operation.

News of the operation filtered into town about 4:50pm and about 5:06pm, the armed robbers were still unleashing terror on the town as they allegedly stationed their gang members at strategic positions in the town, while other robbed the bank unhindered.

Pictures available revealed that about four persons were shot dead while many others sustained bullet wounds.

A source who simply identified herself as Gladys, claimed that she just left the bank shortly after a transaction when the occident occurred.

Another source who gave his name as Happy, said: “UBA bank at Issele Uku community and the Nigeria police station at the community  were stormed and rubbed by notorious armed rubbers.

“The rubbers spent over an hour at the operation without response from security operatives, they further killed four persons during the operation and made away with huge amount of money from the bank”, he alleged.
