Unidentified persons suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a businessman and farmer, Chukwujekwu Uzozie, in Ukpor, Nnewi south local government area of Anambra.
Uzozie’s only son was shot by the assailants who stormed his residence in Umudiji Umuohama village, Ukpor, on Saturday morning and shot sporadically into the air severally before forcing themselves into his compound.
The community has been under siege for some time now, with the local government Secretariat burnt down earlier this week.
It was gathered that the hoodlums stormed Umudiji Umuohama village in their numbers in the wee hours of Saturday and kidnapped Chukwujekwu, from his house while his only son was shot in the stomach.
A source said the incident occurred around midnight, adding that the rampaging gunmen shot their way into the compound.
The source claimed the gunmen were infuriated following the victim’s reluctance to open the gate for them.
“They forced their way into the family compound. The only son who was shot in the belly has been rushed to the hospital where he is receiving treatment,” the source added.
According to the source, members of St Andrew’s Church Umuoham, where Uzozie worships, have organised special prayers for his release and for quick recovery of his only son.
DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, has confirmed the incident, saying a manhunt had been launched for the abductors.
