Despite recent claims of progress in tackling insecurity, Delta State remains under the grip of violence and fear, as fresh reports confirm the abduction of a man by suspected Fulani herdsmen at a construction site in Isele-Azagba, Aniocha north local government area.
The incident occurred around 3:30pm on Sunday, highlighting the persisting threat posed by armed groups operating across the state.
Comrade Victor Ojei, popularly known as Wong Box and lead activist of the Young Nigerian Rights organization, has sharply criticized both the Delta State Government and the Nigeria Police Force for what he describes as premature celebrations over perceived breakthroughs in the fight against insecurity.
“Delta State is not safe!” Ojei declared in a strongly worded statement released shortly after the abduction.
“Multiple danger zones remain active, and today’s attack is a clear warning that the security architecture in the state is still weak and ineffective.”
He cautioned authorities against complacency and urged for a more coordinated, sustained security strategy.
According to Ojei, the kidnapping is not an isolated incident but a reflection of broader, unresolved security failures in rural and semi-urban areas across Delta.
The activist called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, adding that his organization remains open to receiving community-level security information.
Citizens are encouraged to contact Young Nigerian Rights via WhatsApp at 08038785262 to share updates on the security situation in their areas.
As of the time of reporting, police authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the abduction while text message sent to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Edafe Bright, was not answered.
This latest development underscores the urgent need for a comprehensive response to Delta’s growing insecurity, as the state continues to grapple with threats ranging from herdsmen attacks to armed robbery and cult-related violence.
It would be recall that The Story reported that on Friday April 11, 2025, in a decisive and deadly operation, operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Unit neutralized four suspected kidnappers along the Issele-Uku axis.
