ICPC Probes Ex-Delta Lawmaker Elumelu Over Alleged Fraud

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is investigating Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, the immediate past lawmaker representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, over allegations of fraudulent diversion of government projects, The Witness reports.

Sources within the anti-graft agency revealed that Elumelu, who once served as the Minority Leader in the House, is accused of diverting constituency projects and converting them to personal use during his tenure.

As part of the ongoing probe, the ICPC has sealed his multi-million-naira office building in Asaba, Delta State.

Investigations revealed that the property, identified as the “Asaba Massacre Monument Center,” was a constituency project allegedly facilitated by Elumelu but unlawfully converted for private use.

The project was reportedly executed by the Federal Cooperative College, Oji River, Enugu State.

When contacted, ICPC Spokesman Demola Bakare confirmed the investigation, stating that the project was tracked under the Phase 7 Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking Initiative (CEPTI).

“The project has not been officially handed over to the government after completion, prompting the need for further investigation,” Bakare said.

Elumelu has yet to respond to inquiries from The Witness as of press time.

This development comes as the ICPC continues its crackdown on constituency project mismanagement.

Under the CEPTI Phase 7 initiative, the agency uncovered and recovered N30 billion worth of diverted funds and items listed in the budget between December 2023 and December 2024.

Elumelu, who first entered the House of Representatives in 2007, served as Chairman of the House Committees on Power and Health during his tenure.

Despite his political experience, his career has been marred by controversies, including his failed bids for governorship in 2014 and re-election to the House in 2023, where he lost to Labour Party candidate Ngozi Okolie.

This case adds to the growing list of lawmakers under scrutiny for alleged corruption, raising critical concerns about accountability and governance in Nigeria’s political landscape.
