At least two police officers attached to Dragon Patrol Team have been shot dead by daredevil hoodlums.
Trouble started on Sunday July 23rd 2023, when the assailants opened fire on the policemen along the Ughelli/Asaba road by Oleh roundabout, leading to Isoko south local government area of the State.
The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday when the gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on operation, attacked the security agents at the Police check-point.
An eyewitness said the incident happened at the spot where the policemen usually mount checkpoints in the area.
Though information is still sketchy, commercial drivers playing the route that witnessed the scene, narrated that all vehicles had to park with their passengers and fled into the bush for fear of being shot by the hoodlums as the suspected robbers fired sporadically.
It could not be ascertained whether the two officers died on the spot.
It was gathered that the patrol van of the police was set ablaze by the suspects.
It was gathered that rescue team came the way of the victim, making it difficult to ascertain the true state of their health.
It is not also confirmed if the suspects carted away weapons and other belongings of the police officers but, an unconfirmed source disclosed that the hoodlums came in droves and after killing the two officers, they set the patrol van ablaze.
This is happening barely a week after a police Inspector, Jude Ukpaka attached to the Dragon Patrol Team was gunned down. along the Ogor/Evwreni axis of the East-West road.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Edafe Bright, promised to find out but didn’t furnish this medium whether or not the incident occured.
