Group Calls For Urgent Intervention Of Delta Governor, Police Over Alleged Extortion Of Speed Boat, Jetty Owners

Following alarm raised by owners of Speed Boats and Jetty Owners of Ogbe-Ijoh Market that some persons allegedly disguising as Delta State Taskforce to extort over N10, 000 daily from them as tax/dues, some top ex-militant Leaders has strongly warned those harrassing peace loving people of the state to desist from it fortwit in order to avoid breakdown of law and order.

The Leaders under the aegis of the Movement for the Actualization of the Dreams of Niger Deltans (MADND) also called on the State governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to urgently address the extortion issue and put a stop to it before it degenarates into crisis.

They said that the warning became necessary following the incesant harrrasment by some miscreants who allegedly tagged themselves Marine transportation Task force with forceful extortion of over 10, 000 to 20, 000 naira on daily basis.

The statement signed by the National Coordinator of the group, Mr. Josiah Oyakonghan Oyimi (aka Commander Oyimi) reads; “It is disheartened to see our people suffer in the hands of these so called task force who claimed to have been appointed by the State government. We want to state emphatically that if these issues are not urgently resolved, may lead to breakdown of law and order.

The Ex-militant leaders however appealed to the State Commissioner of police, Mr. Ari Muhammed Ali, to also wade into the issue to restore peace in the area.
