Traditional rulers in Delta State have lend their voices to the ban on open grazing, calling on the southern governors and other relevant authorities to give the ban a legislative backing for effective implementation.
The renewed call was contained in a six paragraph Communique’ on Monday June 28th 2021, by Delta North Traditional Rulers Forum (DNTRF), after a meeting at the Palace of the traditional ruler of Obi of Owa kingdom and Chairman of the State Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II, in Owa-Oyibu, Ika northeast local government area of the state.

“That we are fully in support of the ban on open grazing by the southern governors. We condemned in strong terms the threat letter purportedly written by Fulani Jihadists on the planned attack in some localities in Delta State, especially Asaba and Agbor and call on all security agencies to be alert and vigilante in securing the state.
“That we call our governors to help in strengthening the vigilante force through training, remuneration and necessary incentives. That we appeal to fellow traditional rulers to be vigilant and make sure they are always in their respective domains to take charge of their responsibilities”, the Communique’ stressed.
It would be recall that southern governors in Asaba, recently joined forces to ban open grazing in their respective states.
The ban which has become Asaba Declaration, led to a threat by Fulani Jihadists of Usman Dan Fodio heritage to attack Asaba and Agbor with a call on Delta governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, to withdraw his position or face severe consequences.
