Facts have emerged over the indictment of Abba Kyari, the suspended Commander, Intelligence Response Team (IRT), over his alleged $1.1 deal with internet fraudster Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi.
It was gathered that the Inspector General of Alkali Usman Baba, has issued a query to Abba Kyari based on the findings by the Special Investigation Panel (SIP), led by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Joseph Egbunike.
It was gathered that IGP Baba, has reportedly queried the embattled suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Abba Kyari, over his communication with Ramon Abbas, popularly called Hushpuppi.
It was reliably learnt that a probe panel set up by the police to investigate allegations levelled against him by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had submitted its reports to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba.
Findings reveal that the probe panel headed by DIG Joseph Egbunike had established that there was communication between Kyari and Hushpuppi.
Meanwhile, the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation is also looking into the request of extraditing the famed super cop and former commander of the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team, IRT, to the United States of America.
“The IGP has issued a query to Abba Kyari based on the findings of the panel. The panel discovered that there was communication between Kyari and Hushpuppi, as well as infractions on the part of the cop, which is against the procedure of engagement of the police,” a security source told Daily Trust on Sunday.
The source revealed that the panel could not establish if Kyari committed any crime in the US.
“There is no proof that he committed any crime on the soil of the US to warrant his extradition. He will be sanctioned by the appropriate authorities here. However, it is for the AGF to advise if there is a ground to extradite him to the US, which is very unlikely,” he added.
Reacting, the media aide to the AGF and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), Dr. Umar Gwandu, said the position of the AGF would be made known at the appropriate time.
“In line with the provision of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and that of the extant laws, the AGF will do the needful,” he said.
However, a senior police officer said it was only the PSC that could sanction Kyari as stipulated by law.
The police officer said the sanction could be suspension, reduction in rank or dismissal.
It would be recalled Kyari was indicted by the United States over his alleged involvement in a $1.1m Internet fraud allegedly perpetrated by an Instagram influencer, Hushpuppi.
Four others are Abdulrahman Juma (Abdul); Vincent Kelly Chibuzo (Kelly); Rukayat Motunrayo Fashola (Morayo); and Bolatito Agbabiaka (Bolamide).
