A Human Rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, said about N1, 260, 000 allegedly extorted from road users have been recovered from police officers in Delta and Edo States.
The activist alleged that the police uses Point of Sale (POS) to extort their victims.
Gwamnishu, in a post on his verified Facebook page, disclosed that on Sunday 29th May 2022, the sum of N250, 000 was recovered from officers of the Delta State Command purportedly mounting road blocks along the Benin-Warri expressway.
He further disclosed that on Monday May 30th 2022, another N160, 000 was retrieved from officers on same route in the State.
According to him, N850, 000 was recovered from operatives of the Nigerian Police Force, Edo Stste Command, along Okada-Benini expressway after they allegedly forced a businessman to make the transfer through his bank app.
Hear him: “Yesterday, we retrieved N250,000 from Delta Police officers mounting road block along Benin/Warri ExpressWay.
“Today, we retrieved another N160,000 from another team of Police officers on same express in Delta State.
“They used POS to carry out these acts.
“Yesterday, another set of police men along Okada/Benin Expressway forced a business man to open his bank app and transferred N850,000.
“These are just few that was reported”, the post added.
At press time, text message sent to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Edafe Bright, was ignored.
