The Commissioner of Police Aina Adesola highlighted significant operational successes achieved by the Delta State Police Command since her appointment as the 23rd Commissioner of Police.
The briefing which was held on Wednesday January 7, 2025, at the command’s headquarters focused on the proactive measures taken against kidnapping, violent crimes, and illegal arms trafficking in the state.
Under the leadership of CP Adesola, the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) has dismantled several criminal networks, resulting in multiple arrests and the seizure of various illegal arms and ammunition. Key highlights from their operations include:
1. Arrest of Suspected Inter-State Kidnapper: On December 29, 2025, operatives apprehended Abubakar Mohammed, a notorious kidnapper, during a raid in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Subsequent searches led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a K-2 rifle, a pump-action gun, and a significant cache of ammunition.
2. Gun Duel in Ohoror Community: On January 6, 2026, police engaged suspected kidnappers in a gunfight, resulting in the death of one suspect and the recovery of firearms. The operation reflects the police’s commitment to enhancing public safety.
3. Crackdown on Gun Runners: A sting operation on January 3, 2026, in Ughelli Town netted three suspects involved in an illegal arms deal, leading to the seizure of a pump-action gun and ₦280,000 in cash.
4. Targeting Drug Barons: Ongoing operations on January 3 and 5, 2026, resulted in the arrest of multiple drug suspects in Sapele and Warri, with large quantities of illicit drugs confiscated.
5. Raid on Drug Hideout: Police uncovered a stash of drugs during a raid on January 5, 2026, at a shop in Effurun, affirming their stance against substance abuse.
Commissioner Adesola reiterated the command’s commitment to fighting crime and urged the community to continue providing valuable information to aid their efforts.
“We will continue to meet all forms of criminality with decisive and lawful action,” she stated. Parents were also encouraged to monitor their children and discourage involvement in criminal activities.
