The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on crime with the arrest of suspected armed robbers, cultists, and drug peddlers in separate sting operations across the state.
The raids led to the recovery of an English pistol with live ammunition and a large cache of illicit drugs.
According to a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, the operations were carried out between September 13 and 17 in Agbor and Ogwashi-Uku, targeting criminal networks behind robbery and drug trafficking.
On September 17, officers attached to the Ogwashi-Uku Division, led by Divisional Police Officer CSP Israel Okomoyon, intercepted three men on a motorcycle during a joint patrol with local vigilantes.
A search revealed an English pistol loaded with two rounds of live ammunition.
The suspects, identified as 25-year-old Emmanuel Ibekwe, 25-year-old Victor Chibuzor, and 25-year-old Zakaria Joro, all residents of Ogwashi-Uku, could not explain their possession of the firearm.
They have since been handed over to the State Anti-Kidnapping Squad for further investigation.
Earlier, on September 13, operatives of the Eagle Net Special Squad, led by SP Danyaya Yunusa in collaboration with the Nigeria Hunters Forest Security Service (NHFSS), stormed a hotel along the Asaba–Benin Expressway in Agbor.
Acting on credible intelligence, the team arrested ten suspects, including the hotel owner, Markwuye Peter of Ifeanchukwu Street, Agbor. A significant quantity of illicit drugs was seized during the operation.
Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, hailed the successful operations as part of the Command’s renewed offensive against crime, anchored on intelligence gathering, swift response, and collaboration with community security groups.
He assured residents of Delta State that the Command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property, urging citizens to stay vigilant and support law enforcement with credible information.
“These breakthroughs underscore our determination to restore peace and safety across Delta State,” CP Olufemi said.
