The Delta State Police Command has announced significant strides in its fight against insecurity with the arrest of suspected cultists and armed robbers, alongside the recovery of firearms and ammunition in separate operations across the state.

In a statement issued on Friday, September 12, 2025, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, said the operations were carried out under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, through the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) and the Safe Delta Squad.

On September 10, acting on credible intelligence, operatives of CP-SAT arrested one Oluwatobi Olugbemi, 29, a native of Ikenne-Remo in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, but resident in Ibusa, Oshimili North LGA.

A search warrant executed at his residence in Ogboli Quarters led to the recovery of a Beretta pistol loaded with ammunition.

The suspect reportedly confessed to being a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity (a.k.a. Arrow Barger). Police say investigations are ongoing.

In a related development, operatives of the Safe Delta team, on September 9, apprehended Raphael Chukwuemeka, 23, during a surveillance patrol along DBS Road, Asaba.

Chukwuemeka, who was allegedly involved in a violent street fight, was found in possession of a cut-to-size double-barrel pistol and seven live cartridges.

Similarly, on September 10, during a stop-and-search operation at Head Bridge, Asaba, Safe Delta operatives arrested three young men: Solomon Offor (22), Ifesinachi Nwankeze (19), and Ambrose Ugwuba (23).

A locally fabricated single-barrel gun, cartridges, and a dagger concealed in a bag were recovered from them along with a motorcycle.

All suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue.

CP Olufemi Abaniwonda commended the operatives for their swift action and reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to sustain its offensive against cultism, armed robbery, and other violent crimes across Delta State.

He urged residents to remain law-abiding and continue to support the police with useful information to enhance the state’s security architecture.
